THE BEST TAOS RELOCATION ADVICE EVER
Before you shop real estate, apply for a new mailbox or even pick up the classified ads to view apartments and houses for rent, try to figure out how you'll earn a living here. I'm not talking about staying busy, but actually earning a living wage. And you need to do this before you rent the U-Haul.
If you've got a good skill, chances are there are already a couple of dozen people here with the same skill, not earning a living, but keeping busy. $600 a month is sort of an entry level apartment that would be liveable. Smaller houses go for $900 a month on up. You won't find very many of either available, so don't expect a lot of choices. Real estate is a terrific thing to own, but it's expensive. Don't quit your current job before you try to buy a home, and don't make any big purchases that could ding up your credit record.
